Description
Station Approach by L S Lowry Signed Limited Edition Print
Signed limited edition L S Lowry print entitled Station Approach.
A piece of industrial northern history, Station Approach depicts the old Exchange Station which stood at the head of Deansgate. Since demolished in 1969, Lowry captured the bustling station and the hoards of travellers coming and going amongst the industrial backdrop which includes the tower of Strangeways Prison on the right.
The statue in the centre of the composition is Oliver Cromwell, although Lowry has put his own twist on the famous landmark depicting Cromwell directing traffic. Upon demolition of the station, the Cromwell statue was relocated and now resides in Peel Park, another favourite location of Lowry’s, particularly in the early years of his career when he studied nearby.
This edition is in wonderful condition and framed in a high quality white gold leaf frame, hand signed by Lowry and stamped by the fine art trade guild.
