Wigan Pier by James Lawrence Isherwood

Paintings depicting his home town of Wigan have for decades been Isherwood’s most popular pieces and no more so than his depictions of Wigan Pier.

Very few Wigan Pier compositions now still exist and this astonishingly rare example dates back to the earliest period of the artist’s career. Signed to the bottom and initialled as was the norm with these very early pieces, this is one of the rarest Isherwood paintings ever to me to market.
