Roofs at Wigan from Central Station by James Lawrence Isherwood
An original oil on board version of Wigan by the late Wigan artist James Lawrence Isherwood. This work looks east across Wigan from the town centre towards St. Catherine’s Church at Scholes and features a strong blue palette.
While Isherwood didn’t sign the piece to the front, he named it (as was his custom) on the reverse. The work was part of the collector Stephen Eckersley’s private collection and features alongside a photographic image of the same view in Eckersley’s excellent book on Isherwood. This is bound to be a popular work and is available to view now at our Heskin Gallery.
