New Original Paintings by James Lawrence IsherwoodLast updated on
A new selection of original oil on board paintings have recently arrived in the gallery by the late Wigan artist, James Lawrence Isherwood.
Since his death in 1989, Isherwood’s paintings have continually been sought after by both Northern art collectors as well as collectors as far afield as Australia and the USA.
Since our February 2016 Isherwood exhibition, we have seen a steady increase in interest in the artists work with availability increasingly limited as existing collectors look to add to their collections and new collectors are introduced to the artists work.
As a contemporary of Lowry’s, who famously owned an Isherwood painting, Isherwood is grouped with the collective of Northern art but his subject matter was vast and varied. Paintings with connections to his native Wigan remain some of his most sought after subject matter and one of the new pieces features Haigh canal only a few miles from Isherwood’s home.
The additional two paintings are seascapes in his trademark blue colour palette and are all titled and inscribed on the reverse as is typical of many of his paintings.
This James Lawrence Isherwood paintings are currently on show in the gallery along with a selection of additional Isherwood paintings and full details are available by clicking here on our Isherwood gallery.
