New Original Paintings from Geoffrey Key

Last updated on

It is difficult as both a collector and an art dealer to second guess which artist’s work will truly stand the test of time and span generations of collectors.  It is fair to say however that with over fifty years as an artist behind him and having exhibited alongside the likes of icons such as Sir Henry Moore and Dame Elisabeth Frink, Geoffrey Key’s status as one of the greats of the Twentieth Century Northern art scene is very well established.

As such an important living artist, it is a great honour for the gallery to be able to work directly with Geoffrey Key and this week we were privileged to be able to meet up with Geoffrey to view his latest works and discuss his current inspirations.

In the latter part of 2018, Geoffrey embarked upon a new ‘Garland’ series of paintings which develop his recognisable figurative style with a classic elegance.  Two new paintings from this series are now available in the gallery including a stunning 24″ x 24″ painting along with a smaller 12″ x 16″ head study.

The final painting in the new selection is a very unusual landscape painting by the artist.  Taken from a discarded sketch book, this subject matter had been left behind before being revisited by Geoffrey and works wonderfully as a finished oil painting.
