Although he perhaps would not categorize himself as part of what has become known as the Northern Art movement, Geoffrey Key is widely acknowledged as one of the last living members of this group of artists who were perhaps best known for their famous exponent, L S Lowry.
Still proudly living in his home city of Salford, we have long been admirers of Geoffrey Key’s work and we were delighted this week to visit him once again and acquire three new paintings by the great artist.
His work which has a cubist feel, covers many subject matters including figurative, landscape and still life amongst them and we are thrilled to have acquired works covering all three subjects.
As Geoffrey Key is a collector of medieval antiquities, the still life features a sixteenth century bronze mortar and is a fabulous study in oil. The final of the three paintings is an arresting landscape painting, drawing the viewer into the composition and completed in his signature vibrant colour palette.
Described by Lancashire Life as Lancashire’s greatest living artist, it is a great honour to have these paintings available in the gallery so we do hope you are able to visit the gallery view the works.
