Blog Week 7
This week it has been incredibly busy with new art arrivals in the gallery with buying trips to taking us all over the country including to Salford to see the and only Geoffrey Key. With new works on show the weekend from a whole host of artists including Philip Gray, Michael Ashcroft, Barry Hilton and Gary Benfield, it is a great time to come on down to the gallery if you haven’t been along for a while.
New from Geoffrey Key
I was treated once again this week to the wonderful hospitality of legendary Northern artist Geoffrey Key at his home in Salford. Not only was it a great chance to peruse and purchase his latest works but also to chat over some of the many and varied experiences of his long and illustrious career. Did you know that the first of his four exhibitions in Hong Kong was a three artist show alongside Sir Henry Moore and Dame Elisabeth Frink? Sounds like Geoffrey’s knighthood is long overdue!
We were thrilled to be able to purchase three new oil paintings including a really unusual and captivating landscape painting along with two paintings from his recent figurative garland series.
Philip Gray’s Underwater Series
Along with Geoffrey Key’s new works, we have also been lucky this week to be able to acquire a rare piece from Philip Gray’s underwater series.
As many of you will have seen on Youtube and the like, Philip Gray has completed some fascinating underwater painting expeditions where he has taken his easel and paints under the sea to complete some seemingly impossible works. Rarely do we manage to acquire such pieces with the last ones we had in his previous exhibition being the first to sell.
The new painting is absolutely stunning and vibrant and really must be seen in person to believed.
Storm by Gary Benfield
The striking centrepiece to Gary Benfield’s new collection of limited edition prints is the amazing ‘Storm’. From a gorgeous limited edition on canvas of just 195, this is a real statement piece and available to view in the gallery now or online here.
A New Horizon from Barry Hilton
Barry Hilton continues to be one of our best selling artists and with such consistently strong demand for his original paintings, we are pleased that three new embellished limited edition prints are available this week in the gallery.
The new collection includes two beautiful landscape editions in more muted tones than we often see from Barry along with a breathtaking new estuary edition entitled Violet Dawn. Each edition is from a hand signed edition of only 195 and with prices from just £395 framed, they are great value too.
View the new collection online here or why not call in the gallery and see them in person this weekend.
Inn at Whitewell by Michael Ashcroft
The final new painting this week is the other side of Michael Ashcroft’s style from last weeks ‘Manchester from Afar’ series in the form of one of his plein air landscape paintings.
Featuring the Inn at Whitewell in the Ribble Valley viewed from the Stepping Stones along the river, this beautiful painting was executed on the spot by Michael. The painting is available online now on a first come first served basis and is also on show in the gallery along with a number of his ‘Manchester from Afar’ paintings.
We hope you like this weeks new additions and look forward to welcoming you into the gallery to view them in person.
