Born in Glasgwow in 1973, Iain Faulkner graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 1996. Iain Faulkner's paintings are about capturing calm and contemplative moments, intimate exchanges, solitude, sometimes melancholy, heightened in their resonance by the use of chiaroscuro. There is a stillness in the everyday themes which conveys a sense of inner-reflection.
Artist Faulkner readily acknowledges influences such as Singer Sargent, Degas, Whistler and Vermeer's use of everday scenes.
Many of Iain Faulkner's paintings and prints feature his own person, but are not strictly self portraits but juxtapositions of times where Faulkner is the actor.
