Barry Hilton Signs to National Publisher Buckingham Fine Art

Barry Hilton Signs to National Publisher Buckingham Fine Art

Lancashire artist Barry Hilton has recently signed a new publishing and distribution deal with national publishing company, Buckingham Fine Art.

Barry Hilton has long been one of Hepplestone Fine Art's most popular artists, whose dramatic landscapes, Victorian street scenes and stormy galleon paintings have continually captivated collectors.

At the grand age of 70 (sorry Barry), Hilton's appeal with art collectors has been recognised with Buckingham Fine Art launching the first collection of limited edition prints. Hopefully the addition of a limited edition collection will allow more people to purchase his increasingly sought after work.

Barry Hilton's available limited edition collection and original paintings can be viewed here

Philip Gray - Personal Appearance and Exhibition - 15th April between 7.00pm and 9.00pm.

Philip Gray - Personal Appearance and Exhibition - 15th April between 7.00pm and 9.00pm.

Leading contemporary seascape artist Philip Gray will be flying in from Ireland to meet his loyal collectors at an evening soiree at Hepplestone Fine Art on Friday 15th April between 7.00pm and 9.00pm.

The award-winning Irishman will be in the gallery celebrating the launch of a superb range of powerful previously unseen Original Paintings, Pastels and an outstanding collection of Limited Editions at a special reception at Heskin Hall Craft Centre.

Philip's passion for art is equalled only by his passion for exploration and discovery. A tranquil painting day in the studio is not the norm for Philip, for he is a man of action interacting fully with the natural world that he portrays. His 'Extreme Art' exploits, painting in unexpected and sometimes dangerous locations has won him a unique reputation as an artist and adventurer. In 2008, Philip returned from a voyage of the Bahamas having discovered a new pallet by which to express the tonal variations of the world's oceans. Using his past experience as a naval diver and his unique expertise and versatility as an artist, he undertook an extraordinary project; 60ft below sea level with scuba equipment and sixty minutes bottom time, Philip used a pallet knife and his fingers to create three oils on canvas over a series of dives in shark-infested waters. More recently Philip completed a "life changing" expedition to Mount Everest in the Himalayas, where he sketched and painted at 20,000 feet and found inspiration for his epic collection 'Altitude'.

As well as talking about this fascinating and sometimes terrifying experiences, Philip will be giving one of his unmissable live painting demonstrations. These hugely entertaining displays start with him inviting members of the audience to pick up a pastel and make a mark on his paper of any size or colour. Once the paper is suitably covered, Philip takes over. While he chats away in his wonderfully relaxed Irish lilt he applies pastels of his own choice and, incorporating what has already been laid on the paper, he magically creates a beautiful landscape or seascape on the base which he has been given. Once completed, Philip will be handing the finished piece over to the gallery and it will be auctioned in aid of The Hope Foundation, a tremendous Irish charity which provides much needed help for the thousands of abandoned children who live on the streets of Calcutta.

This celebrated artist holds a unique position in the international art world. His eloquent and powerful seascapes have captivated a generation of art lovers and won him an impressive range of awards, media coverage and celebrity collectors. As his reputation has grown, his original work has become increasingly sought after, and his status as one of the UK's most collectable artists has now been confirmed. His universal appeal can be seen simply from a list of his celebrity collectors, which ranges from Bill Clinton to Dolly Parton. His wonderfully warm personality and legendary Irish charm have won him huge popularity in the collector's community, and he is always delighted to pose for photographs or personalise artwork for his many admirers.

Hepplestone Fine Art owner Giles Hepplestone said: "Philip is a genuine star of the art world, but is also a highly approachable individual, a great friend of Hepplestone and quite simply a amazing character! He is a lovely guest and we shall enjoy introducing him to collectors over a glass or two of wine. I hope our friends in the area will all be coming along to meet him and to enjoy this unique occasion."

Alexander Millar 'Working Man' Exhibition

Alexander Millar 'Working Man' Exhibition

Artist Alexander Millar will be showcasing an exhibition of his most recent commisions in the Great North Museum: Hancock, between 26th March - 8th May 2011. Millar's exhibition entitled 'Working Man' will include a collection of his newest original paintings as well as a few of his most memorable originals from his artistic career.

‘Working Man’, by Alexander Millar aims to celebrate the people that have built the North East, the exhibition is to connect the people of Newcastle with the men and women that built the city, not only via industry, but the virtues, morals and spirit of the region.

‘Working Man’ brings the region’s industrial history and stoic society to light, as seen through the eyes of one of the country’s most significant contemporary artists Alexander Millar. Using the ‘gadgie’ character to portray the working man, Millar finds a philosophy, a warmth and a humour in the every day. The ‘gadgie’ symbolises all that is great about the people of the North East, he is the steel worker, the ship worker, the miner of region, this exhibition celebrates the history, society and foundations of the region, giving opportunities for the young and old of the north east to be proud of their forefathers. This exhibition is truly at the heart and soul of the city.

The way in which Antony Gormley’s Angel of the North pays homage to the ship building heritage of the region, Alexander Millar’s work looks at the people of manufacturing industries, their lives, the ups and downs, their humour, the almost sarcastic joie de vivre. The honesty of these works are what makes a city take an artist to their hearts. Alexander Millar is truly an artist of the people, removing the barriers and perceived pretensions, making art accessible to the masses, for example depicting the unifying experience that is attending a football match, or taking joy from a simple bicycle ride.

Like L.S. Lowry before him, Millar finds his subject matter in the everyday; both shunning the glamour and mystique of the city, for something more real, more honest. Both L.S Lowry and Alexander Millar are masters of making the ordinary, extraordinary.

An Artist to watch out for: Anna Razumovskaya

An Artist to watch out for: Anna Razumovskaya

Limited Edition Pieces by the highly acclaimed Russian artist Anna Razumovskaya are in the gallery and looking stunning.

With her classic figurative forms, Anna Razumovskaya magically captures the lyrical romanticism of renaissance portraiture, while creating art that is completely modern and original. Anna is inspired by the graceful elegance of the female form, at turns, classically alluring, demure and provocative. Her art has a pervasive sense of ‘romanticism’, and the passionate and dynamic application of paint on the canvas and the artist’s signature use of expressive colour, combine to create her uniquely recognisable style.

Anna Razumovskaya is a graduate of the Russian State University For Arts, where she was awarded the distinction of high-class artist in 1991. Subsequently, she studied art in Germany, Belgium and Holland. With solo exhibitions in New York, Paris, Toronto, Amsterdam, Antwerp and Berlin and numerous works in private collections across the globe, she has become one of the most exciting and collectable artists on the contemporary scene.

Born at the height of the cold war, Razumovskaya was exposed to very different worlds, that of the austere communist regime alongside the sophistication and femininity of her fashion-conscious mother. She excelled at art school, and enjoyed the freedom of learning and perfecting her technique in a variety of different media. Of particular interest to her were the portrait masters of the late 19th Century, John Singer Sargent, the Russian painter Valentin Serov, and earlier masters such as Peter Paul Rubens and Rembrandt. She travelled around Europe absorbing the influences of artists past and present, and finally settled in Canada which she now feels to be her true home.

“Quickly, easily, brightly: this is the way I draw, the same way I live. My art is a reflection of my life, a reflection of myself…”

Come along to the gallery and see her work in the flesh or click here to view the current collection.
