Drew Darcy Artist BiographyDrew Darcy, born in Shrewsbury in 1976, is the son of a doctor and a nurse, and the eldest of two twins. Darcy believes that his artistic flare may have been passed down from my mother's side.
Drawing from an early age, Drew Darcy was introduced to oil painting at Stonyhurst College, Lancashire. Following Darcy's attainment of A-grades in GCSE and A-level Art & Design, he moved to Birmingham to complete a BTEC National Diploma in Art & Design at Bourneville Art College.
Drew Darcy's pieces involve an erotic contrast between the bare skin of female figures with a small amount of fabric. This fashion-inspired subject matter may stem from his family background. Darcy's grandfather was from five generations of tailors and trained in Saville Row to become a bespoke tailor. Darcy's other grandfather was an industrial designer and skilled draughtsman. Thus, Darcy was surrounded by fabric as a child.
Drew Darcy additionally formed a guitar band and spent a few years performing all over the UK and Ireland.
After exhibiting and selling work in galleries around the country, Darcy showed five new pieces at a major exhibition in Birmingham in 2004, which received a highly positive response.
