Peter Wileman Original Oil Painting

Winter Sunset by Peter Wileman – Original Oil on Canvas

Peter Wileman’s great talent is painting light in his bold and vigorous style which has made his original paintings sought after and collected across the globe.

Born in 1946 in Middlesex, Peter Wileman’s first job was as a studio junior for a card company, where his innate artistic talent was recognised. Here he spent five years studying lettering and design – his first artistic training – which gave him a solid grounding in colour awareness and formal structure. Peter then moved on to become art editor on a number of magazines, until finally he tired of the rat-race and set himself up as a freelance illustrator.

Wileman’s years of experience stood him in good stead and working freelance gave Peter the opportunity to concentrate on his painting, and he has produced a substantial body of highly expressive work inspired by Britain’s coves and harbours. His large-scale compositions have a painterly quality derived from the apparent vigour of the brushstrokes and the impression of spontaneous creativity, which make them both dramatic and uplifting. Peter’s work has been recognised with various awards including the Frank Herring award at the Mall Galleries in London and the Cornellisen Prize for Outstanding Work 2002.

Introducing Artist Craig Alan

Marilyn Monroe Original Painting Art ArtistNew in the gallery this week is the work of Californian artist Craig Alan. Rarely do we see artwork that is so unique and striking as Craig Alan’s amazing compositions, cleverly mixing the tiny characterful figures to create wonderful striking images.

Craig Alan was born in 1971 in San Bernardino, California and has always been attracted to the artistic side of life.  Craig Alan’s earliest experimentation was street portraiture, helping him perfect his flair for replicating the human figure and afforded the budding artist a sense of economic autonomy.

Craig’s collections run the gamut from abstract expressionism to haunting, graphic realism, each one a reflection of its Craig’s unique vision.

Having exhibited widely across the United States, 2012 sees the launch of his career in the UK with a major distribution deal with the UK’s major publishing and art group, Demontfort Fine Art.  We look forward to watching Craig Alan’s career blossom and are thrilled that our collectors will be some of the first in the UK to enjoy and own his work.

Timmy Mallett Paints Preston

Fresh from his recent to visit to Preston in November when Timmy Mallett painted a Piano for charity at Preston Train Station, we are delighted to have just received a new original Mallett painting from this trip.

Hopefully those who know Preston will recognise the scene!

Artist Timmy Mallett says of the painting: “This long row of phoneboxes at night caught my eye one wet evening.  Not only are they a stunning row of red phoneboxes glistening in the street light and reflecting in the wet pavement.  It was the figure on her own intent on her phone call outside the box!  She looked as if she was sheltering from the drizzle too!”

“Millar now more Monet than Lowry”

Having just completed another successful exhibition in the North of England, art critic Sue Steward of the London Evening Standard has reviewed Alexander Millar‘s latest collection:

“I never imagined that Alexander would abandon the ‘gadgies’ as the main characters in his evocative paintings”.

“And with these surprisingly different new works, he hasn’t. What we see has happened is his dramatic transformation as an artist: the change of palette and colour tones, the materials and techniques involved are one thing, but more obvious is his positioning of these treasured subjects and the role they play in these industrial scenes”.

“With this new approach comes a change of mood but the results are just as atmospheric and familiar because they are set in the same streets, amongst some of the same smoking chimneys, rows of terraced houses and even the dwarfing viaduct from previous paintings. “In Your Shadow” which has the feel of early Bill Brandt photographs taken in the North of England, with the cobbled alley, washing hanging above the heads of two boys kicking a ball and the anonymous gadgie pushing his bike home. Unlike other gadgies in this new work, Alexander paints him as before – with back to the view, anonymous and archetypal”.

“But in this new work, the familiar sight of the men in the gadgie caps struggling home on their bike or with friends holding them up after a night in the pub, are now part of the bigger picture, the overall scene – put into the context of their lives. “Hobnailed Boots on Cobbled Streets” doesn’t actually feature the boots but the crowds of men who’ve just clocked out, crammed together in the excitement of leaving work, fags hanging off lips, we can hear the noise of those boots and the chatter of the miners”.

Graham Short – Hands of Genius

Graham Short Pin EngravingGraham Short Engraver

Known as “the world’s smallest engraver” for his miniature masterpieces, Graham Short has spent almost 50 years honing his craft, going to physical and mental extremes to produce the highest-quality engravings in the world.

Graham Short’s desire to produce an engraving so small as to be illegible to the naked eye led to the making of his masterpiece The Lord’s Prayer Engraved on the Head of a Gold Pin, which can only be seen properly through a powerful microscope.

After a national newspaper discovered Graham’s genius, the demand for his work was immediate.  His first fine art show was an instant sell-out.

For his next project Graham produced “Cutting edge”, where he engraved ”Nothing is Impossible” on the sharp edge of a razor blade.  As a result Graham hit instant global celebrity status.

Hepplestone Fine Art are delighted to be associated with such a unique and individual talent and will be showcasing a number of his mind blowing minature engravings.  To view the currently available pieces click here.

Fabian Perez Exhibition

Fabian Perez Artist LancashireInternationally collected artist Fabian Perez will be visiting the gallery once again on the evening of the 3rd November from 7-9pm.

The exhibition will feature a large number of Fabian Perez original paintings and limited edition prints and will provide the opportunity for collectors to meet one of the official artists of the 2012 Olympics.

For those collectors unfamiliar with the South American artists work, you are in for a treat.  Born in 1967, Fabian Perez grew up outside Buenos Aires in a turbulent world of political upheaval during the post-Peron military regime. Such a childhood could not fail to impact on every area of his life including his artistic ethos, especially when taken in conjunction with his unconventional upbringing.

Fabian’s father Antonio owned a number of brothels and illegal nightclubs in Campana, and was frequently chased and closed down by the police. Nevertheless the young Fabian Perez was constantly exposed to beautiful women who could seduce a man “simply by lighting a cigarette”. Today we see these “ladies of the night” exquisitely portrayed in many of Fabian Perez originals and limited editions – memories of his youth and the nightlife he observed.

Fabian Perez original paintings and limited edition prints are now collected throughout the world and the exhibition will provide a unique opportunity to meet the artist in Lancashire and have your favourite pieces personalised.

Controversy Over Banksy Exhibition

Artnet magazine have reported on the controversy surrounding the Banksy pieces included in the reconstituted street works exhibition which opened on August 20th, 2011.

The decision to bring two Banksy stencils from Bethlehem for the exhibition has caused controversy with some quarters claiming that the Banksy pieces were originally intended for the West Bank and should have been left there.

Artnet have reported that only one of the Banksy pieces on show has been certified by Banksy’s authentication office, Pest Control, but the gallery organisers are confident about the background and pedigree of the pieces.
